Sad Story #1: Abyssinian tombs were discovered in the 19th c. & created quite a sensation & a decorative frenzy.Then the bigger, better & more fantastic Egyptian tombs were unearth & so Egyptian Revival became the sensation & opaqued the less fabulous Abyssinians discoveries into decorative obscurity. Therefore, Abyssininan Revival decorative arts are hard to find. Or, so the story goes.

Sad Story #2: I sold this amphora to "Mr. I Don't Need It Wrapped" who became the victim of the Lack of Domestic Vigilance. I took every shard to my objects' conservator who contracts with the Smithsonian Institution & she restored this amphora. Close up photos of glue joints inside the neck. On the shelf they should look fine.

Sad Story #3: "Mr. I Don't Need It Wrapped" became "Mr. Deadbeat" & stuck me with the repair bill (along with his landlord) & skipped town. My price is the restoration charge.
