We offer this unusual and delightful antique Austrian pottery figure of a male singer entitled CHANSON (The Singer) signed by E Stellmacher and made by Reissner Stellmacher Kessel dating from around 1900. The painted pottery figure sits raised on a bench mounted on a moulded stonework pedestal base with a leafy stem and is moulded in relief to the front with the title CHANSON. The figure wears a long buttoned up coat and large bow tie and has a top hat lying on the bench next to him. He holds up a small book of lyrics and appears to be singing. The surface of the base is signed E Stellmacher with impressed RStK mark for Reissner Stellmacher Kessel, Austria and numbered 1566 to the back.
