    Description

This is a rare antique brass key fob for the Crawford House Hotel.  The fob is a starburst design with 18 tabs, which have been bent over to make it into either a trivet or a fob that can be more easily found in a large bag.  It would be easy enough to bend the tabs back.  The fob measures 3" wide and has CRAWFORD HOUSE 52 stamped and painted black.  There were two Crawford House hotels, one in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire and the other in Boston, Massachusetts.   The NH hotel was in the White Mountains and had rooms for over 400 guests and the Boston hotel had 5 floors and could house 450 guests, so either hotel could have a room #52.  Both hotels also were at their height of popularity in the late 1800's when this type of key fob/tag was in use.
