CREATURE!! Odd~~Unique~~Unusual ~~Heavy~~Hollow~~Made of ???~10 14"

Up for bid is a CREATURE that we acquired at an estate sale
If you are looking for unique and bizarre, well, here ya go!!!
We have no idea what it is made of.  I thought the bottom has a rust look, so I thought metal, but my husband says I'm nuts, and he thinks it is some kind of clay, which it is, but what is the round base!?!?
The creature sculpture is hollow inside,  and it is heavy for its size. The last photo shows a crack in bottom, that you can see light through when you look inside, so it wouldn't hold a liquid without leaking. Just in case you want to use it as a vase!!!
He's even dressed up with a bow tie. You could paint WELCOME on his belly and let him greet your visitors!
He measures 10 1/4" high x 7 1/2" wide  x 6 1/4"deep.
